Code of Editorial Conduct

Editorial Policy & Testing Standards

"Our reputation as a consumer media publisher depends entirely on our impartiality. Here is exactly how we maintain absolute integrity."

1. Editorial Independence & The Non-Payola Guarantee

At Vantage Consumer, our editorial decisions are made entirely by our journalists, laboratory testers, and editors. We adhere to the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Code of Ethics:

  • No Paid Reviews: We never accept monetary compensation, sponsorships, or favors from manufacturers or PR agencies in exchange for favorable reviews or placement on our 'Best Of' lists.
  • Independent Purchases: Whenever possible, we purchase review units anonymously via standard retail channels using our own editorial budget to ensure we test the exact same product a consumer receives.
  • No Advance Previews: Brands and manufacturers are never given advance access to our articles, scores, or conclusions prior to public release. They cannot edit our copy or veto critical assessments.
  • Complete Separation: Our business, partnership, and affiliate monetization teams operate independently from our editorial desk. Writers and testers do not know the specific commission rates of affiliate links when reviewing products.

2. The 1-to-10 Vantage Scoring Rubric

Every product evaluated in our laboratory receives a composite score from 1.0 to 10.0 based on four weighted criteria:

Performance & Core Utility (35% Weight)1.0 - 10.0

How well does the product fulfill its primary promise? Measured via calibrated decibels, suction recovery weights, battery wattage discharge, and thermal imaging.

Build Quality, Durability & Repairability (25% Weight)1.0 - 10.0

Materials, hinge integrity, drop resilience, replacement parts availability, and manufacturer warranty duration.

User Experience & Ergonomics (20% Weight)1.0 - 10.0

Setup difficulty, companion software reliability, physical button feedback, daily cleaning ease, and noise nuisance levels.

Value for Money (20% Weight)1.0 - 10.0

Price relative to market alternatives, long-term cost of ownership (replacement filters, consumables), and resale retention.

Scoring Scale: 9.0–10.0 = Editor's Choice (Industry Benchmark) • 8.0–8.9 = Excellent • 7.0–7.9 = Good with Minor Caveats • Below 7.0 = Not Recommended.

3. How We Verify Deals & Promo Codes

Unlike automated coupon scrapers that populate thousands of expired codes to fish for search traffic, Vantage Consumer employs a dedicated deal research desk.

Every deal featured on our platform must pass three mandatory checkpoints:

  1. Cart Verification: The code or discount must be manually applied on the official merchant cart with a US shipping address to verify that it reduces the subtotal.
  2. Price History Audit: We cross-reference historical price trackers to ensure the merchant did not inflate the 'list price' right before discounting.
  3. Authorized Seller Check: We do not link to unverified marketplace third-party sellers that void manufacturer warranties or distribute counterfeit goods.

4. Corrections & Updates Policy

We take factual accuracy seriously. If an error is identified in our product specifications, testing data, or pricing information, we correct it immediately and provide an update note at the top or bottom of the article.

To report a factual error or request a review update, please email our editorial desk at corrections@vantagereview.com.
